WSBK 2012: Assen Results

The Netherlands hosted a dramatic weekend of World Superbike racing that featured a red-flagged wet race, several riders crashing while leading, a first-time race winner, a photo finish between two teammates and the reigning World Champion finishing out of the points because of a poor choice of tires. The 2011 WSBK Champion Carlos Checa arrived at Assen with the lead in the championship and a three-race winning streak, but opting to run wet tires in Race Two cost him the lead and may have contributed to a crash that severely injured Liberty Racing‘s Brett McCormick. Ioda Racing Unveils Aprilia RSV4-Powered MotoGP CRT Race Bike

Italy-based Ioda Racing presented its 2012 MotoGP and Moto2 race bikes including the Aprilia RSV4-engined TR003 prototype. The Ioda Racing TR003 machine (pictured above, to the left) uses a trellis-frame produced in-house while the engine is based on the RSV4′s 999cc V4 powerplant. The team will compete as CAME IodaRacingas a Claiming Rule Team entry.

How I'll remember Marco

I think we'll all be mourning the loss of Marco Simoncelli for a long time yet; his full potential will remain an unanswerable topic of many pub debates for years to come. But one thing's for sure: he was unique and this year he injected so much energy, plenty of controversy and a whole load of 'what ifs' to the sport. I must admit, for years I used to sacrifice whatever was happening on a Sunday to make sure I could watch the GP but this year I haven't seen every race, it just hasn't been the same: Stoner has been dominant, the grid has been embarrassingly low on numbers, Rossi has been absent and the battles have - in general - not been memorable.
