Aprilia waited until just a few days before the start of the 2014 World Superbike Championship to reveal the livery on its RSV4 Superbike. Most of the other factory teams revealed their liveries weeks ago, but now that we’ve seen the “silver fireball” look the RSV4, we can say the wait was worth it. The new silver look replaces the predominantly red and black look used the past few seasons.
Marco Melandri earned BMW its second ever World Superbike victory to move into second place in the championship standings behind Max Biaggi in the series’ only stop in the United States. Melandri won a red-flagged Race Two at Utah’s Miller Motorsports Park after finishing second to defending WSBK Champion Carlos Checa in Race One to give him 142.5 points on the season, tied with Kawasaki‘s Tom Sykes but behind Aprilia‘s Biaggi who leads the way with 160.5 points. I have had a little walk around checking out the preparations for the show. I haven’t seen anything that I haven’t already seen or heard about previously, but here’s a selection from three of the halls. Yamaha are the only manufacturer to use an industrial crane to place some of its bikes up on high rise stands.
