BMW Other description

2003 BMW R1200CLC, Great Cruiser!Raised on the road. Living in luxury.
Introducing the R 1200 CL -- BMW's new luxury cruiser - built for a different breed of rider.

You'll see its genetic makeup when you walk up to it. Right under the weather buffeting fairing is the noble head of a BMW Cruiser. Wide chrome-plated handlebars, generous sideboards, and for the first time, four front headlights, give the R 1200 CL an unmistakably unique presence..

And it's got guts too. Having inherited the 1,170cc flat twin power unit of the original Cruiser, it'll pull 72lb-ft of torque at 3000rpm, calling up 61 horses in the process. And accompanying its substantial power is the unparalleled braking capability inherent in a BMW motorcycle.

But beyond beauty and brawn, the R 1200 CL is outfitted for true long-distance luxury. The custom windshield, like the fairing, protects you from the elements. The seats are specially designed for enduring comfort and heated for cold weather riding. The suspension system capitalizes on BMW's pioneering Telelever and Monolever technologies. Even the gearbox has been reconfigured to offer smoother riding and shifting over long distances. Add to this top and side travel cases, heated grips and an onboard AM/FM-stereo/CD player, then finish the package with bold colors, chrome highlights, and all new cast aluminum wheels.

The new R 1200 CL, it's got luxury in its lineage and cruiser in its character. It's the newest member of the BMW family. And it was bred for people who were born to ride.

Soft-touch seats, heated rider and passenger seats, and the AM/FM sound system with single-disc CD player are standard on the R 1200 CL Custom.

Epic biking holidays - of a lifetime?

Mon, 31 Jan 2011

I never had the rudimentary gap year traveling before university, seeing it as a bit of a cliché I set upon knuckling down with my studies and getting a degree. I never had that moment of discovery and finding out 'who I really am' and to some extent it's a regret. But I'm feeling inspired and the inspiration comes from two adventures offered by Compass Expeditions.

BMW has launched an HP Race Power Kit for the S1000 RR costing £2,850 including VAT.For trackday riders and racers, the kit - a new ECU and an Akrapovic exhaust system - increases peak power and torque, while optimising the bike’s engine, braking and power management systems, claim BMW, for short circuit riding and racing.Ayrton Badovini’s 2010 FIM Superstock 1000 championship-winning bike uses the HP Race Power Kit. It can also be found on the Jentin Racing-BMW Motorrad S 1000 RR being raced by Richard Cooper in the British National Superstock championship.• Maximum engine output increased by 4bhp and 6lb.ft to 197bhp (147kW) and 88.5 lb.ft (120 Nm) with power and torque significantly bolstered throughout the key 5000 to 9000 rpm midrange• Once installed, the power mapping for the four engine management riding modes (‘Rain’, ‘Sport’, ‘Race’ and ‘Slick’) is identical and the S 1000 RR delivers the full 197bhp across all four modes• The different modes instead alter the electronic rider aids with the Race ABS reducing input and the Dynamic Traction Control allowing full power at greater lean angles as the modes move from ‘Rain’ through to ‘Slick’• Engine braking on overrun is reduced giving more balanced corner entry• Pit-lane limiter activated when the start button is held down in first gear (actual speed maintained may vary with the bike’s gearing)• Akrapovic titanium and carbon-fibre full exhaust system saves 6.8kg over stock and includes a baffle which allows the exhaust to meet noise regulations in place at some circuits
