BMW Other description

2013 Bmw F800GS, Updated for 2013 - It is time to set forth – into a new age, on a new generation of enduro bikes. With low weight and abundant power reserves. Able to cope with real terrain as well as perform amazing banking feats on asphalt. An enduro bike like no other BMW Motorrad has made before: an 800 cc machine with a full 85 hp and torque of 62 ft-lb weighing road-ready just 462 lbs! State-of-the-art engine management with highly economical fuel consumption, but abundant riding fun with powerful sound management, too: truly unstoppable! With a space frame which is not only has a high level of torsional stiffness but also allows room for lots of other highlights such as a large airbox and fuel tank under the seat. Fitted at the front with a 21-inch wheel which provides constant directional stability even over off-road stretches, at the rear with a full 17-inch wheel for the appropriate propulsion power – both naturally with robust spokes. The dual disc at the front and the single disc at the rear make for a breathtaking braking performance, with further safety enhancement available from the optional ABS. The chassis is adapted to the off-road concept and has generous spring travel which can cope with the odd jump. Even though this bike is perfect when it comes off the production line: it wouldn’t be a BMW if there weren’t an extensive range of special accessories available for it – so that you can make your BMW even more individual. This modern enduro – almost like a fun bike in its naked state – can thus be turned into an adventurous long-distance runner, not just visually but functionally too.

Turn your BMW into a fire engine

Wed, 16 Mar 2011

German fire engine and pump manufacturer Rosenbauer have utilised the ubiquitous BMW 1200 boxer engine to produce a powerful and lightweight water pump.  The engine runs as normal, using it's torqey qualities to power the high pressure waterpump attached.  Firefighters can carry this compact pump closer to the fire, and go where the normal fire engine cannot reach.

BMW GS Rider Rescues Cow Calf From Canal [Video]

Wed, 26 Oct 2011

As a motorcyclist I’ve made it my duty to stop and lend assistance any time I see a fellow rider that looks like they’re in need, a sort of paying it forward mentality for the many times I found myself in need of a hand. In most instances the rider stopped on the road’s edge had pulled to the side temporarily to resolve an innocuous issue, but occasionally a rider genuinely needed my help. In either case the riders were grateful that a fellow motorcyclist was checking up on them.

BMW has launched an HP Race Power Kit for the S1000 RR costing £2,850 including VAT.For trackday riders and racers, the kit - a new ECU and an Akrapovic exhaust system - increases peak power and torque, while optimising the bike’s engine, braking and power management systems, claim BMW, for short circuit riding and racing.Ayrton Badovini’s 2010 FIM Superstock 1000 championship-winning bike uses the HP Race Power Kit. It can also be found on the Jentin Racing-BMW Motorrad S 1000 RR being raced by Richard Cooper in the British National Superstock championship.• Maximum engine output increased by 4bhp and 6lb.ft to 197bhp (147kW) and 88.5 lb.ft (120 Nm) with power and torque significantly bolstered throughout the key 5000 to 9000 rpm midrange• Once installed, the power mapping for the four engine management riding modes (‘Rain’, ‘Sport’, ‘Race’ and ‘Slick’) is identical and the S 1000 RR delivers the full 197bhp across all four modes• The different modes instead alter the electronic rider aids with the Race ABS reducing input and the Dynamic Traction Control allowing full power at greater lean angles as the modes move from ‘Rain’ through to ‘Slick’• Engine braking on overrun is reduced giving more balanced corner entry• Pit-lane limiter activated when the start button is held down in first gear (actual speed maintained may vary with the bike’s gearing)• Akrapovic titanium and carbon-fibre full exhaust system saves 6.8kg over stock and includes a baffle which allows the exhaust to meet noise regulations in place at some circuits
