1961 BWM R69S
Showing approximately 40k miles. 1961 BMW R69S serial number 656428. Correct and rare first year 1961 R69S. Serial numbers documented by BMW Archives in Munich. This example was carefully sorted and restored in 2012/2013 by master BMW technician Phil Cheney in Connecticut. Current owner is a well know BMW collector, who's collection was recently featured in the November 17, 2015 Edition of the Wall Street Journal. He purchased this R69S from a collector in Michigan in 2012 and immediately began an mechanical and cosmetic restoration. Note that the early production R69S did not have an emblem on the rear fender. Cosmetically all sheet metal was refinished, added Magura race levers, Albert mirrors, and Hoske exhaust pipes (originals come with the bike). Works on Bikes: EX BMW
Thu, 22 Aug 2013Take a 1991 BMW K100, put in a whole load of creativity and 99 hours of effort and you get this: the Works on Bikes EX BMW. Called the EX BMW because the two guys and girl behind this custom from Milan only kept the engine and part of the original frame. It uses wood, steel, laser machining, CNC and probably the odd bash with a hammer.
IIHS Asks NHTSA to Make ABS Brakes Mandatory for All Street-legal Motorcycles in US
Fri, 07 Jun 2013The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety and the Highway Loss Data Institute have submitted a letter to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration petitioning in favor of making anti-lock brakes mandatory for all new on-highway motorcycles. The letter, addressed to David Strickland, NHTSA administrator, included a recent IIHS study on the effects of ABS on motorcycle fatal crash rates. The report found ABS technology reduces the rate of fatal crashes by 31%, while collision claim rates were 20% lower with ABS-equipped motorcycles.
2013 BMW F700GS and F800GS Announced
Tue, 03 Jul 2012BMW has updated its F800GS and introduced the F700GS which replaces the F650GS for the German manufacturer’s 2013 lineup. The 2013 BMW F800GS slots in under the R1200GS as the company’s mid-displacement adventure tourer while the F700GS is an entry-level model to the segment. Despite the nomenclature, both models are equipped with liquid-cooled and fuel-injected four-valve 798cc twin-cylinder engines, just like the 650.
