BMW R-Series description

ADVENTURE AWAITS!
Amazing 1997 BMW R1100 RT With Ample Experience Ready for a Serious Rider!

I am for sale by my second owner in over sixteen years!  I have seen every corner of the country, from the Nation's Capitol, down to the Florida Keys, across the plains of Kansas, over the mountains of Colorado, to the beaches of San Diego, and up to the Puget Sound in Washington!

My riders have always been serious about going the extra mile to make it a fun ride! I can corner like a sport bike, but ride as comfortable as an RV on the open road.  I have the power to blow past a Harley any day of the week, and I revel in all the looks I get from passers by at every stop along the way.  I've been ridden hard on many occasions going over 1,000 miles in a single day, and haven't broken down once!

My owners have always taken great care of my engine and all other mechanical parts.  Being part of a BMW-loving family helps!  My owner's brother is a certified BMW tech, so keeping in tip top shape hasn't been an issue.

DISASTER AVOIDED!
There are minor cosmetic issues on my gorgeous BMW Blue exterior, but they give me some great character and a story to tell! I was coming back to California from a long ride out to Colorado when my owner and I encountered some serious sunshine that led to some serious misfortune for someone checking me out too hard! You see, we came around the corner near Lake Tahoe when the setting sun nearly blinded a man driving an SUV right next to me! The driver didn't seem to understand that the corner continued around to the right, and instead he swerved right at me!  With cat-like reflexes, I was able to slam the brakes, get missed by the SUV, and stayed out of harm's way.  The SUV fared far worse though- careening into the median barrier which saved him from a 50 foot fall, then returning to the mountain side where he slammed into the side of the hill!  My owner and I watched the whole thing, and we quickly made our way over to check on the driver and his passengers.  Unfortunately, the ground wasn't too stable where we stopped (being on a mountain side and all), and unfortunately I lost my balance and fell to the right when my owner was helping the injured party.

Luckily for both me and my owner, I'm a BMW!  So after the injured people were tended to, my owner was able to get me back upright and on the road with nary an issue mechanically!  We finished our ride- another 300 miles- that day, and made it home safe and sound.  Unfortunately, my valve cover and right mirror are worse for wear, but like I mentioned earlier, they give me character and something to boast about!  I could easily get to looking like new again if my owner wanted it to be, but sometimes perfection is over-rated!

AMAZING HANDLING!
I pride myself at being extremely agile and quick compared to most of my counterparts out there.  For a touring bike, I am incredibly versatile- having been over gravel, dirt, sand, and of course amazingly smooth black-top.  Out here in Washington, you might have heard, we have an issue with rain.  Well, coming around a gorgeous mountain road one day, we hit a runoff going about 45 miles per hour, and my rear tire slipped right out from under me!  It was fast and somewhat scary, but by having great handling and easy maneuverability, I quickly righted myself and we got back into our lane, avoiding a potentially catastrophic outcome!

PERFECT FOR THE AMBITIOUS RIDER!
Alas, every great love story must come to an end.  My owner hasn't had much time for me these past couple of years, and I have been somewhat neglected.  I can't blame him though- he now has a wife and two children who aren't old enough to ride.  I'm not a fan of his company though, which won't allow him to ride me to work.  We've begged and pleaded, but to no avail.

Therefore, it is time for me to seek out a new owner, a new partner! I need someone who is looking to go for a joy ride every now and then, or just needs a faster and easier way to work each day!  I'm incredibly reliable- having never broken down or had mechanical problems.  I have a new battery and recently had the oil changed and everything checked out.  No service records, unfortunately, since everything is done in the garage I am housed by the hands of my owner's BMW certified brother.  He works for beer, so we keep it off the books!

AMENITIES/EXTRAS!
I come with some great amenities as well, including the following:
  • Autocomm system  for speaking between the passenger and rider.
    • My owner loves listening to his iPhone on those long rides with Pandora or audiobooks!
  • Nelson Rigg tank bag
    • Straps on with soft fabric straps so as not to scratch or damage the tank. Also easily unclasps to get to the gas cap.
  • Battery Tender
    • Keeps my battery charged night and day when I can't be ridden for a while.  I'd much rather go for a two hour ride to recharge, but this keeps me charged up during cold wet or snowy winter days!
  • Adjustable wind shield (full size, not small version)
    • Because let's face it, we need more shielding during the rainy days we ride!
  • Two matching helmets with Autocomm headsets
    • At one time the husband and wife rode together, so being stylish was a must.
    • Men's is a Medium, passenger is a small.  Both are wired so that you can talk to each other easily on the road.
  • Saddle and Trunk bags
    • BMW OEM Hard saddle and rear trunk bags are removable for luggage if you stay in a decent hotel!
  • PIAA Fog Lights
    • Light up the night with these amazing halogen lamps. They come with their own on/off switch so that they don't get burned out when they're not needed.
  • Small Red Flashing Rear Light
    • Keep those pesky automobile drivers alert by having the flashing light on in the rear so that we don't get hit! Fingers crossed- it hasn't happened yet!
  • Center stand and side stand
    • Easy to get me on the center stand for maintenance.

Here are a few things going on around the Motorcycle.com Forum Network: Animated Engines plivez, a new member of the Ducati.ms forums (welcome Plivez!) has a website where he animates motorcycle engines in flash. It’s pretty interesting to see the way a Evo and Twin Cam V twin Harley Davidson engine works. He also has up the crazy BMW flat twin R100 motorcycle engine which seems more complicated then an engine should be!

2013 BMW C600 Sport Recalled in Canada for Loose Fairings

BMW‘s maxi-scooters have only just started going on sale in North America and already there’s a recall for the 2013 BMW C600 Sport in Canada. According to Transport Canada, the fairing side panels on certain BMW C600 Sport scooters can loosen and detach while moving at very high speeds. In such a situation, the detached fairing poses a hazard to the rider and passenger as well as other vehicles and bystanders.
