BMW R-Series description

1978 BMW r100/7 With fresh cafe build

This bike is for sale locally for $9,250 obo as well as here on ebay so this listing may end at anytime. If you are serious about owning this amazing machine get ahold of me and we can work something out.

Clean California title in hand with keys ready for new owner.

If you have any questions you can call or text me at 775 742 8807

Local buyers encouraged to come see the bike in person, all others I can provide pictures or video of whatever you would like to see.

I will be happy to assist in shipping. If the buyer would like I can provide a "Shipped to your door" price for the bike. If you want to look into shipping yourself I highly recommend USHIP. They have a free price estimator and in my experience you can usually get about 25% cheaper than estimated price with some patience. Bike is to be shipped from Reno, NV 89509    I have shipped a bike to southern California for 150$ and the east coast for 500$

Bike only had 29k miles before conversion, and has since only had maybe 100 miles of testing.  The engines and transmission are both VERY healthy, and were not messed with internally.

Here is a list of some of the modifications and work done (im sure I will forget some)

Custom front fairing was very pricey made from fiberglass, and has the 3d beveled edges unlike some of the cheaper front fairings you will see. The windscreen was hand formed to assure it didn't look bubbly like 90% of them you see. The front fairing stay had to be hand made to fit this motorcycle, and keep it low to look just right.

Rear seat is 100% custom hand made from scratch. I wanted a slimmer and shorter seat than the stock one, so the subframe was modified, which required the rear fender to be modified, a hand laid fiberglass sheet pan was made, motorcycle seat foam was hand shaped to the desired shape, and it was taken to a local upholsterer who has been in business for a long long time and they did an awesome job covering in black vinyl.

Paint is a factory BMW "Citrin Black Metallic" that is an option on the newer M series cars. This is by far my favorite black, It looks very very deep black when it shadows, and when light hits it really comes alive with color, I will post a picture in direct sunlight later to show what I am talking about, you can also google the color.

New factory tank decals installed

Clip on handlebars

Aftermarket  Koso digital speedometer was mounted and setup.

A Very nice set of later forks from a R100RS was purchased in order to complete the dual disc conversion for the front end. Upon arrival the forks were completely dis-assembled and rebuilt, Now has dual brembo disc brakes, with all new stainless lines and fittings, as well as new master cylinder.

Brand new front and rear tires

I wanted this to handle as good as possible, so the front end was stiffened up with a billet upper triple clamp, and also a lower fork brace.

New hand controls were fitted both left and right sides to freshen up the handlebars.

New clutch lever and perch, as well as new brake master cylinder and levers were mounted.

New throttle with billet throttle splitter for dual carbs as well as new throttle cables

New stainless braided clutch cable

Upgraded rear shocks

Rear LED tail light

New Karkoma petcocks on both sides of gas tank.

Nice set of aftermarket mufflers installed and sound amazing.

New progrip SBK hand grips, as well as new BMW foot rests

New factory braided fuel line, with new inline fuel filters were installed.

The carburetors were disassembled, cleaned in a high heat ultrasonic cleaner, the re-assembled, and balanced.

New oil in engine along with filter.

Transmission, driveline, and final drive all got a fluid flush with Factory BMW gear oil.

Valves were adjusted, and timing was set as well as carbs balanced.

New Battery

There is plenty of stuff I am forgetting I am sure. Please see pictures for more details.

On Nov-10-16 at 09:26:48 PST, seller added the following information:

Yes, the bike is still wired for turn signals, I can install them for the buyer for a small fee.

Also the bike will include a set of nice powdercoated Bar end mirrors.

Kymco to Supply BMW with i3 Electric Car Range Extender and New 400cc Scooter Engine

Fri, 25 Jan 2013

The automotive world has been buzzing of late about BMW‘s upcoming i3 electric car having an optional range extending gas-powered motorcycle engine. As our sister site Autoguide.com reports, the i3 will be available with an optional two-cylinder BMW motorcycle engine to power a generator which can recharge the electric motor and extend the vehicle’s range to 250 miles compared to a range of 60-90 miles relying just on the battery. It turns out that two-cylinder motorcycle engine will actually be provided to BMW by Taiwanese manufacturer Kymco.
