U.S. variant of the first year BSA Lightning
Bike has been completely gone through and been test ridden for about 800 mi.
First about the engine. Has had it's crankshaft oil trap meticulously cleaned (very important don't buy one without proof of this)
Motor is from a low mileage 1970 Lighning treated to the following all new seals and gaskets connecting rod bearings and bolts (ARP)
Crankshaft end float was set at a perfect .002" thou. New .040" over 7 1/2 compression pistons (GPM brand) new rings
Cyl. head received new guides and valves and also checked for true
Gearbox was like new inside no wear and layshaft end play is in spec.
As you probably noticed if you have a discerning eye for these bikes this particular bike is a bit of a BITSA depending on your point of view on originality this bike utilizes the best parts from the mid to late 60's and still has enough to retain the look and feel of the original model.
Front end- This 1968 only front fork is hard to get much better then the 1964 It has through rod shuttle dampening that actually works and maybe the best part is it allows the terrific twin leading shoe brake to be utilized. Unusual original dropped upper tree is in place .Chrome on both wheels are very presentable. Brake cable is new as well as clutch and throttle
The Bad / The bike starts and runs well enough to ride all day but the right side carb needs to be replaced because the pilot passage is not pulling gas correctly and the air screw doesn't respond to adjusting And of course the side panel don't match the color of the tank but they are both in excellent condition for there age and won't require any significant body work to paint. Seat and Tires are like new condition.

Man Builds Sidecar from Bathtub
Thu, 23 Apr 2009Back in 1997, an unusual motorcycle appeared on the front page of the Bristol Evening Post. Unable to afford a costly traditional sidecar, bus driver Alan Iles of Bedminster opted to build his own, using a bathtub. Twelve years later, the 1959 650cc BSA is still going and has been ridden all over Europe to help raise money for Cancer research and various charities, for which he has raised thousands of British pounds.
The Fonz Never Really Rode a Motorcycle!
Tue, 02 Jun 2009According to the “King of Cool” himself, “The Fonz” (Henry Winkler) never actually rode any motorcycles during the ten year Happy Days television run. Winkler, never rode a bike in real life either, he has dyslexia, which made it difficult for him to co-ordinate the clutch, throttle and brake. Instead, the bikes (Harley Davidson’s, Triumph’s, BSA’s were used) were mounted on a piece of wood with wheels to make it look like he was riding, even though I am not shocked, I am a little disappointed… You can watch the interview with Winkler, the famous motorcycle jump “The Fonz” made over 14 trashcans and a bonus “Jump the Shark” video after the jump.
