1930 Harley-Davidson DL Sport Solo Original Paint One Owner

In 1929 Harley Davidson introduced their first side valve powered motorcycle in a 45ci displacement. Rather than create a new frame, they utilized the frames from the smaller ci OHV singles, but new engine cases were designed to mount the generator vertically alongside the front cylinder, giving the motorcycle the appearance of a three cylinder engine. The following year, in 1930, many improvements were made to the 45. This 1930 DL Sport Solo was recently acquired by Bator International, Inc. from the original owner’s family and imported back into the US after its 86 year stay in South Africa. This beauty is in amazing original condition with Harley’s familiar olive green finish and orange striping. It is an export model featuring a front fender license plate and export front wheel stand. Only 3,191 units were produced and this DL is a late 1930 production model. The vertical generator is unique as it has two independent field coils. During daylight running, only one coil is energized, the second coming on only when the lights are switched on. The dual headlights are separate low and high beam with a toggle switch on the right hand handlebar. New 1930 features included a new lower frame, drop forge I-beam forks and drop center rims. This mid-displacement motorcycle made 18.5 hp and would top out at 60-65 mph with a happy cruising speed of 50 mph.

Best Western Holds Photo Contest for Motorcyclists

Best Western is holding a new contest for motorcyclists to celebrate its 65th anniversary and the launch of its three types of hotels. The Best Western Ride Rewards Photo Contest is open to motorcycle riders and runs until July 15. To enter, riders must submit photos of their motorcycles in front of a Best Western sign from the chain’s 2,200 North American locations to the Best Western Facebook page.

ACCEL Stealth Supercoils Now Available For Harley-Davidson Sportsters

ACCEL today announced the company’s popular motorcycle Stealth SuperCoils will now be available to owners of 2007-2014 Harley-Davidson Sportsters. First introduced in late-2013 for Harley-Davidson Twin-Cam engines, ACCEL’s Stealth SuperCoils provide quicker engine starting and improved throttle response, while hiding all ignition wiring in the head of the self-contained coil pack; eliminating the need for spark plug wires and creating a clean, custom look. In addition to the flat black and natural aluminum finishes, the Sportster Stealth SuperCoils are offered in flat black with polished aluminum edges. Each SuperCoil mounts directly to the spark plug and features a cross-functional cast aluminum cover that also acts as a heat sink, pulling heat away from the cylinder heads.

The U.S. motorcycle industry saw a 4.6% decrease in year-on-year sales over the first six months of 2011, thanks mostly to a 17.3% drop in ATV sales. Motorcycle and scooter sales however saw a 1.7% bump in the first half .
