2011 Harley-Davidson XL1200X Sportster Forty-Eight, 2011 XL1200X Stock in Vivid Black - The 2011 Harley-Davidson Sportster Forty-Eight XL1200X is one of the garage custom motorcycles in the Harley Dark Custom line. This bike cruises down the road with a 1,200 cc Evolution engine – an engine with a true Harley-Davidson soul. The Forty-Eight also has an authentic peanut tank which first appeared on Harley-Davidson back in 1948 (its name origin) and has been a defining Sportster feature ever since. The front end of the bike looks beefy with its fat MT90 tire. The Harley Sportster Forty-Eight look is enhanced with the lowered front and rear suspension. Add a low seat height, and you have a serious looking motorcycle with an approachable riding stance. The feeling rings true today as it did 72 years ago, when Wallace Van Sandt, of Birmingham, Alabama, took delivery of his 1941 Harley-Davidson WLD Special Sport Solo, purchased new in 1940 for $365 (roughly $5800 in today’s money) by his father as a high school graduation gift. The WLD Special Sport Solo was a ringer in its day.

Additionally, Orlando Harley-Davidson becomes the newest exhibitor to join AIMExpo, which will host nearly 500 powersports companies from around the world October 16-19 at Orlando’s Orange County Convention Center (OCCC). The presence of the Harley-Davidson brand at AIMExpo for the first time adds to the growing excitement surrounding the 2014 event, now less than a month away.
AMA Honors Zero and Scot Harden with Bessie Stringfield Award
Tue, 04 Mar 2014The American Motorcyclist Association has bestowed a special recognition award to Zero Motorcycles and its Vice President of Marketing, Hall-of-Famer Scot Harden, for their work in attracting new riders and the positive impact they’ve delivered to mainstream media. Harden (pictured above from our recent Zero FX dirt riding review) and Zero were awarded the AMA Bessie Stringfield Award which recognizes individuals who have been instrumental in bringing emerging markets to motorcycling. The award is named after 2002 AMA Hall of Fame inductee Bessie Stringfield, the first African-American woman to ride solo across the United States and a civilian motorcycle dispatch rider for the army in World War II.
