KTM Other description

1989 500 DXC 2 stroke in excellent condition.

Bike was in warm dry storage between 1990 and 2015.
California bike raced in a couple of D37 desert meetings in ’90 season.
The original owner had health issues and the bike was put away at the end of ’90..
There it remained until 2010 when, after his passing, his brother cleared out his estate. At that time he had the bike gone through by Erics in Pasadena.
Having only ridden it down the street, he was not a dirt biker, he then sold on the bike on in 2015, when I bought it from him.

Partial restoration includes:
Full rebuild, with new parts, of WP Rear shock and forks by ESP.
Linkage, bearings and seals gone through.
New Rental handlebars and grips.
New plastics (old plastics included).
New seat cover, fuel tap, cables etc and misc. parts from Austria.
Stainless steel hardware throughout.
Period correct Farioli factory graphics from UK.
New Dunlop tyres and tubes.
All fluids, brake pads, changed, coolant flushed.
New air Filter.
New steering head bearings.
New DEP silencer from UK.
Expansion chamber ceramic coated satin black.
Fitted with smaller motocross gas tank.
Bike also comes with factory KTM desert tank.
Tune up by Brett (formally Eric’s now ESP).
Bike is not perfect cosmetically but very, very nice. It looks like it’s been ridden partially for a season and put away!
It has some paint wear on frame from rider’s boots, the frame has not been touched up or repainted so you can see how little riding the bike has received.
there is some mild discoloration on the original Nordisc wheel rims and a few spokes.

This bike runs fantastic. It has more midrange than my 450 SXF Factory Edition!
I was quite shocked how well the performance compares to a modern 4 stroke. According to specs at the time this model makes 65 hp.
The racing number 4 is for my favorite KTM rider of the period, the great sand specialist, KEES VAN DER VEN!

I don’t think anybody will be disappointed with this bike.
Currently green stickered for California off road use with a clean title in my name with no back DMV fees.
Was planning to race it in NORRA Baja race but due to shoulder injury things have changed.
Good luck, Martyn.

The Diavel rocks!

Thu, 21 Jul 2011

The Diavel is my new bike of the year. Not being a huge Ducati fan, when I was thrown the keys of this monster at Silverstone on Tuesday I was expecting an ill handling, weighty beast that would run out of revs and scare me to death. Well I couldn’t have been more wrong as I had an absolute blast.

Lotus C-01 Motorcycle Revealed

Thu, 20 Feb 2014

After remaining mostly quiet since releasing an initial teaser last June, auto racing team Kodewa has revealed its Lotus C-01 motorcycle. Officially licensed to use the Lotus automaker’s brand, the C-01 is a carbon-clad V-Twin boasting approximately 200 hp. Before we get much further, let’s clear up some possible misconceptions.

KTM Reports Q1 2014 Sales Results

Mon, 14 Apr 2014

KTM reported a record year in 2013, but the Austrian company does not appear to be slowing down in 2014. KTM claims sales of 32,994 motorcycles over the first three months of the year, an impressive 26.8% increase over the same period in 2013. Considering KTM sold a record 123,859 all of last year, the impressive start bodes well for another attempt at a sales record in 2014.
