2013 KTM 50SX Review

2013 KTM 50SX
THE PERFECT LAUNCHPAD INTO THE MX WORLD
A real KTM for the smallest of future MX champions. The 40 kg (87.7lb), lightweight 2013 KTM 50 SX sets standards in terms controllability and racing fun. It has everything including a high-quality chassis with easily applied disc brakes, top-quality components wherever you look, a powerful, reliable engine with easy-to-operate centrifugal clutch.

2013 KTM 50SX Features and Benefits
ADJUSTABLE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION
The new, centrifugally controlled, multi-disc automatic clutch makes riding the 2013 KTM 50 SX the easiest thing in the world. Completely redesigned by KTM, the 50 gram lighter clutch delivers significantly improved and more controllable acceleration. Furthermore, it can still be quickly and easily adjusted to the specific requirements of both track and rider using the "KTM clicker system" - in a matter of seconds and with no special tools required.

WP CHASSIS
The high-quality, upside-down front fork from WP Suspension, with 35 mm (1.38 in) diameter outer tubes and 185 mm (7.28 in) suspension travel, provides excellent ride stability and guarantees optimum damping properties and supreme responsiveness. At the rear wheel, a WP shock absorber hinged directly to the swingarm also supplies 205 mm (8.07 in) suspension travel and excels with superior and reliable damping, even on the highest of jumps.
ENGINE
The modern, extremely compact, 2-stroke engine clearly sets the benchmark in its class with its very controllable power. Equipped with a newly developed automatic clutch, the 2013 KTM 50 SX even easier to master. Thanks to the 3-shaft concept, the crankshaft in the KTM engine is closer to the bike's center of gravity, which not only benefits the handling; it also allows a flatter and thus flow-optimized inflow angle of the intake membrane for maximum performance.

OPTIONAL RESTRICTOR KIT
To enable adaptation of the race-ready performance of the 2013 KTM 50 SX to the needs of the youngest beginners as well, a power-reduction kit including a smaller carburator is available from the PowerParts range, with which the engine can be restricted to a moderate 5.5 hp.
BRAKES
Both at the front and rear, optimally dimensioned disc brakes from FORMULA ensure the best possible deceleration on the 2013 KTM 50 SX. The exclusive, self-cleaning wave-type brake discs stand for the ultimate in race technology and outstanding safety.
WATER COOLING
The KTM 50 SX's liquid-cooling system, with two large radiators and additional cooling for the crankcase, prevents the engine overheating, even under the most extreme loads.

POW! 2008 KTM RC8 1190 ‘the orange torpedo’

Wed, 10 Dec 2008

Red, Blue, Green & Black – these are motorcycle colors, right? Well, orange definitely needs to be considered a motorcycle color too. Full discretion first, I’ve a thing for KTM bikes.

My dream bike for 2013: The KTM 250GPR

Fri, 26 Oct 2012

I never really know when I’m asked what my dream bike would be but should Camelot shine on me this Saturday I know what I want at the moment, the KTM250GPR. At around £45,000 and with only 49bhp the Austrian firms over the counter Moto 3 racer for 2013 might not sound that appealing but I beg to differ. For starters they look stunning so I’d never get bored of looking at it in my garage but the technical spec and potential fun of taking one to a race track is what really turns me on. Far from being some motocross engine shoehorned into a steel trellis frame the 250GPR is just a small step down from Sandro Cortese’s world championship winning Moto 3 machine.

Mon, 30 Jan 2012

The 2012 AMA Supercross Championship race is getting tighter with a fourth race winner in as many rounds following James Stewart‘s victory in Oakland, Calif. The JGRMX Yamaha racer captured his first win of the 2012 season at Oakland’s O.co Coliseum. Stewart out-dueled longtime rival Chad Reed of TwoTwo Motorsports Honda for the win.
