Moto Guzzi 850T description

1975 Moto Guzzi 850T in excellent condition.  Ready to ride, today!  New Pirelli Sport Demon tires in original sizes installed a couple of hundred miles ago (about 8 weeks).  Battery fresh (kept on a tender when not in use).  Fires right up, runs great, ready to go.

Several mods to make this into a minor cafe style bike:
- Bobbed front and rear fenders
- Drop "Z" handlebars
- Smaller replacement turn signals
- Small round tail light
- Cut down seat grab handle
- Crash bars removed (has head guards installed)
- Shorty replacement mufflers installed
- Oil temp gauge / dipstick

In addition to the existing modifications, I have a complete spare steel T series seat pan and a BMW R90S seat cowl.  My plan was to cut down the seat cowl and weld it to the pan, creating a solo cafe seat.  Since the seat removes with two bolts, I planned to have both seats available, for swapping back and forth between solo and two-up riding.  Never got around to this, but these parts are included in the sale.

Also included are the original mufflers, the original turn signals, the center stand (removed), the crash bars and aftermarket steering damper (not really needed), and any other miscellaneous parts for the bike.  None of these spares are pictured, but they are included.

I have the original owners manual, a Haynes shop manual, and a binder with a photocopy of the parts manual for the bike.  And a full spare set of keys for the ignition and side boxes (how often do you find a 30 year old motorcycle with all of it's keys?).

As far as I know, I am the third owner.  I bought this 2 years ago, and have gradually done the mods to it over that time.  Only ridden it about 6-7 times last summer, and exactly twice so far this summer, once for a test ride of the new tires, and one longer ride to my friend's Italian car shop open house this spring.  I'm just not using it enough.  I also recently injured my left hand in a mountain bike accident, and it's just not healing very well, making motorcycling a little difficult.

There is a slight oil drip under engine after a long ride.  1-2 teaspoons of oil.  Not serious enough to dig into it, I just watch the oil level and it is fine.  According to the previous owner, it did this for years.

Available for local pickup in Elkton MD - right off of I-95 between Baltimore and Philly.  If you have a plate, you could just ride it home.  I can deliver within a reasonable distance.  Baltimore, Philly, Lancaster/York counties of PA, Delaware, MD Eastern Shore are all within reasonable reach, and I will deliver in any of these areas for $50 flat fee to cover gas, etc.  I have a small trailer.  But no long trips - 45 - 60 minutes each way.  Or you could always meet me part way.  I have time available almost every day next week - after that, it would need to be picked up here.

I am also happy to help you with shipping.  I will not select a shipper or arrange shipping - that is up to you.  But I will cooperate and help in any way needed on my end.

If you have been looking for an older Guzzi, I guarantee that you will not be disappointed!  There's not a lot of these around on the East Coast, and this is a real nice example.  Bike is garaged and kept on battery tender when not in use.

Any questions, just let me know!  Serious inquiries, send me your phone number and I'll call you right back.  Thanks for looking!

Q3 2013 US Motorcycle Sales Results

Fri, 01 Nov 2013

Motorcycle and scooter sales in the U.S. in 2013 remain consistent with last year’s figures, according to data released by the Motorcycle Industry Council. Several manufacturers blamed poor weather for the poor start this year, and the rebounding sales in the third quarter helped to negate the slow sales from earlier in the year.

Three-Time World Champion Wayne Rainey Honored At Quail Motorcycle Gathering

Saturday, May 4 marked the 5th annual Quail Motorcycle Gathering in Carmel, California. With such a diverse collection of historical, rare and outrageous motorcycles, the Quail is an event we thoroughly enjoyed attending last year. To commemorate the occasion, this year’s guest of honor was none other than three-time 500cc Grand Prix world champion, and local area resident, Wayne Rainey.

Piaggio Opening New Design Center in US

Piaggio announced it is opening a new design center in Pasadena, Calif., to be headed by Aprilia RSV4 designer Miguel Galluzzi. Roberto Colaninno, chairman and chief executive officer of  the Piaggio Group, announced plans for the new Advanced Design Center at a dealer convention for the Piaggio Group Americas in Miami, Fla. At the moment, North American customers usually have to wait a little longer before they receive new Piaggio models, with most models arriving on these shores months after they are available in Europe.
