Marco Melandri earned BMW its second ever World Superbike victory to move into second place in the championship standings behind Max Biaggi in the series’ only stop in the United States. Melandri won a red-flagged Race Two at Utah’s Miller Motorsports Park after finishing second to defending WSBK Champion Carlos Checa in Race One to give him 142.5 points on the season, tied with Kawasaki‘s Tom Sykes but behind Aprilia‘s Biaggi who leads the way with 160.5 points. Kevin Schwantz to Race 2013 Suzuka 8 Hours

Former Grand Prix World Champion Kevin Schwantz has been making the headlines a lot recently, and not necessarily for good reasons. But finally there’s some good news: Schwantz is coming out of retirement to race in the 2013 Suzuka 8 Hours endurance race. Schwantz is joining Yukio Kagayama‘s team for the July 28 race, riding a Japanese Superbike-spec Suzuki GSX-R1000.

Suzuki Contributes to Philippines Typhoon Relief Efforts

Suzuki announced it will donate ¥7 million (US$70,013) in aid to help those in the Philippines affected by Typhoon Haiyan. Suzuki joins Honda and Yamaha which have both previously pledged aid to the Philippines. The latest numbers have raised the death toll to 3,951 people, with another 1,598 still unaccounted for, and another 4 million displaced from their homes.
