Suzuki Wins LeMans 24hr Endurance Season Finale

The defending champion Suzuki Endurance Racing Team (SERT) have had a rough season this year, with exactly zero victories to its name. However, at the season finale LeMans 24-hour race, the team turned their fortunes around. An old friend dropped in this weekend, on his way back from an arse-killing 4,500 mile ride to Estoril and back to watch the MotoGP race. He has only ever ridden Harley chops and old stuff with the exception of his vague nod at practicality and modernity - an ancient, very, very high mileage R1100GS BMW. I made him a brew and some pasta arrabiatta then made him ride my 2011 Fireblade.

Marco Melandri earned BMW its second ever World Superbike victory to move into second place in the championship standings behind Max Biaggi in the series’ only stop in the United States. Melandri won a red-flagged Race Two at Utah’s Miller Motorsports Park after finishing second to defending WSBK Champion Carlos Checa in Race One to give him 142.5 points on the season, tied with Kawasaki‘s Tom Sykes but behind Aprilia‘s Biaggi who leads the way with 160.5 points.
