L. L Politzer 1885-1954 (Ludwig Louis)

This Bookplate comes from the Louis Politzer Ex Libris collection that was housed in an Octavo ring binder. Each Bookplate was tipped-in to the page at the top of the Bookplate. Sometimes the upper corners of the Bookplate was trimmed, for an unknown reason. Many pages bear the handwriting of Louis Politzer. This collection was gathered during the years that Louis Politzer was a member of the Bread & Cheese Club, Melbourne. There were a significant number of Bookplates from Vienna and a considerable number of Jewish interest.

Louis Politzer’s most notable work was: Dr. Ludwig Leichhardt's letters from Australia during the years March 23, 1842, to April 3, 1848 / with an appendix Dr. Ludwig Leichhardt as naturalist and explorer, by G. Neumayer ; introduction by Alec H. Chisholm ; authorized translation by L.L. Politzer.

L. L. Politzer (1885–1954) was a bibliographer, photographer, translator & poet and an associate and correspondent of many Australian literary figures.

Behind the “Bathing Suit” Picture

Fri, 09 Jan 2009

Few motorcycle photographs are as iconic as that of the famous Bonneville “Bathing Suit Picture.” While you have undoubtedly seen this image before, you may not know the story behind it. The scantily clad and debatably crazy rider was a man by the name of Roland “Rollie” Free. The bike, often thought by many to be a Vincent Black Shadow, was in fact a Black Lightning – the fastest Vincent ever to see production.
