This weekend, the MotoGP circus makes its way to the United States for round two of the world championship, held at the stunning new Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Texas, the first time the track will host a world championship level motorcycle event. Expect to see the world’s fastest racebikes reach speeds over 200 mph on the 1 km (0.62-mile) back straight, and bring ear plugs — these bikes are loud! Fresh off a 1-2 finish in the season opener in Qatar, Jorge Lorenzo and Valentino Rossi are looking to carry the momentum to CotA.Wed, 01 Feb 2012 00:00:00 -0800
Ducati continues to develop its Desmosedici GP12 MotoGP race bike, setting modest goals while trying to establish a good setup. Already trailing the other factory teams in development time for its race prototypes, Ducati continued to try to find good base settings for the GP12. Valentino Rossi achieved the team’s goal of lapping under two minutes and two seconds with a time of 2:01.886 while completing 44 laps on the second day of testing at Malaysia’s Sepang circuit.Fri, 09 Nov 2012 00:00:00 -0800
Dean Benstead's air-powered bike project, O2 Pursuit, which we spoke about a year ago, seems to have come along nicely since. Here's a video of the Australian's rotary air compression-engined Yamaha WR250R being taken out for a spin. Apparently it can hit 87 mph and cover more than 60 miles on a scuba-tankful's worth.
